I had a thought

I had a thought.

It wasn’t much at first but it intrigued me enough
to ponder it deeply and work on a rough
plan of how to make it so, to put it in play.
It was intriguing and complex, I could even say
It was game-changing, or so I thought.

I pondered it more, the boundaries were limit-less
I think this thing could really, with some finesse
take our game to a new level of play.
It was a good thought, it was, I would say
like nothing before it, or so I thought.

I could see the vision unfold in full view.
It was visionary. I could see my whole crew
would be with me, supporting my plan
of changing the world as only I can.
It was powerful, it was real, or so I thought.

I pondered it more. I’m certain the team will see
it for the potential I know it could be.
Dissecting its value, predicting the odds,
the numbers, the values, the charts and the nods
of heads bobbing in eager consensus.
I see this all as if it’s already at its nexus
of success and glory. But something’s amiss …
Something inside me can’t resist
feeling as if the next step is too far, or so I thought.

So none of this lasted, none came to be,
it never happened, it never broke free.
A corpse on the vine, a swing in the air
which misses its target. A shoe with no pair.
A whim, an urge, a spark with no flame.
It didn’t happen because I was too lame,
too scared to take the leap, the fear
to overcome, to put the plan into gear.
I was too scared of how far I could fall, or so I thought.

In the end the vision unraveled, left nothing behind.
The energy fled, the coil unwound
with nothing behind it but dust of what could be,
never to see the light, never to breathe.
The world is today as it was before.
The gear stands motionless, no more
forward motion, no next steps to take.
An empty plane landed on a field by the lake.
Perhaps the next one would fly farther, or so I though.

In the end …

I had a thought….. for naught
